'The Anthropological Museum tells the story of educational experiences in the old town of Ituzaingó.'
Anthropological Museum
Museum Purpose
“We start today, the museum of tomorrow, gathering records of a past caught between forgetfulness and the wish not to forget. We explore nature and human work to increase knowledge, culture, and education of the people. We seek a view that connects cultural heritage, to reconnect with our roots and learn about other cultures.”
These words show the museum’s purpose.
What you can see
The Anthropological Museum is open to the public and has many important objects. It keeps remains (tombs) of indigenous people who lived here in the 18th century.
The items come from excavations by Dr. Jorge Amílcar Rodríguez in the area called Jasyreta, in Ituzaingó. These belong to the Guarani people.
You can see two types of stone tools:
- The archaic type from northern South America.
- The southern type from part of Uruguay.
There are also different shaped stone tools: some are chipped, others are polished.
Collection
The museum’s collection covers objects from 500 BC to 1100 AD.
Building history
The museum was created to show and protect elements of ancient culture. Its mission is to preserve and value remains that show the life of early humans up to today.
